The Carlisle Import/Kit-Replicar Nationals is an event that showcases andcelebrates a wide variety of vehicles; everything from European classics to Japanese sportscars will be displayed, judged and raced throughout the weekend of May 15-17 at the CarlislePA Fairgrounds. Coupled with the Carlisle Import nationals is the largest kit car gathering in theU.S. This year's special guest for the Kit-Replicar event will once again be Bruce Meyers, fatherof the modern day Dune Buggy. Meyers made his Carlisle debut at the 2008 Carlisle Import Kit-Replicar nationals and was such a hit that the Carlisle Team insisted he come back in 2009.

Meyers has a long history with Dune Buggies, dating back to the original water pumpers ofSouthern California. Meyers took it upon himself to re-design the crude, heavy vehicles into thelightweight version that we are accustomed to today. After being featured on the cover ofnational automotive magazines like Hot Rod and Car and Driver, The Meyers Manx's popularitytook off across the country. Over the years, Meyers produced over 7,000 kits stemming fromthe Manx. He and his wife Winnie hope to make the East Coast debut of his final version of theclassic buggy, the Manx Kick-Out at the Carlisle Import/Kit-Replicar Nationals.

Manx enthusiasts will feel at home on the Import side of the event as well, which features agrowing number of air-cooled Volkswagens. VW diehards will need to step up their participationin a big way in 2009 if they hope to compete in the Club Challenge with their fellow Deutscheauto hobbyists: the Audi Club brought close to 100 cars to the event in 2008.
