2004 Toyota Matrix XRS
Adam Barber
via e-mail
Mods: 2003 Matrix XRS ECU (for lift at 6200rpm), Injen air intake, Magnaflow catback exhaust, ported exhaust manifold, custom four-gauge ground wires, AEM Tru-Power alternator pulley, TRD tower brace, TRD front anto-roll bar, Hotchkis rear anti-roll bar, Speed Source brass shifter bushings, TWM short shifter, Energy Suspension motor mounts, Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs, 18x8 (+35mm offset) OZ Superleggera wheels, 225/40/18 BFGoodrich Scorcher T/A tires, Gripforce stage two clutch, Fidanza flywheel, ARP flywheel bolts, ATS rear spoiler, black brake calipers and hubs.

Adam says: "No one ever expects my (debadged) XRS to perform the way it does. I love the sound of lift [with VVTL-i variable valve timing and lift] with a cold-air intake, which just howls at 8200rpm on the highway. Nothing beats cruising at 70mph and dropping from sixth to third and taking off with a scream from under the hood."

We say: This Matrix has run 15.5 seconds at 91.7mph, with 30mpg on Adam's daily drive. Doesn't sound too bad right about now.

Ryan says:"This is my San Remo Red '04 WRX. It's my first Subaru and I absolutely love it. It's been a long, expensive process to bring it up to what it is, hopefully it's worthy to grace the pages of your great magazine."

We say: Goes fast and looks good. It's worthy.
